Swimming Lessons

All throughout my childhood my sister and I among with several of my childhood friends took swimming lessons at Bartholomew pool with Miss Pam O'Connor. That was over 20 years ago. It's pretty much a MUST when you have a pool in your backyard, esp for safety reaons if a child were to fall in etc. Well now I have a child who has a pool in her backyard and who did I find to teach her? Miss Pam! She is still teaching and has been for over 50 years! She's one of those teachers that we didn't LOVE to see everyday. She's a little rough around the edges and makes toddlers jump off the diving board at 2 years old in the deep end and find their way to the side!! Talk about torture watching this, as we have many home videos of these days, but her teaching works, we learned and we are great swimmers because of Miss Pam. Even better, she still remembers me and my family. So I have enrolled Ashlyn in her class stAarting later this month and I'm a bit nervous. Ashlyn is a bit of a drama princess and screams so this will be interesting. I'll update on this subject later after classes start! Wish us luck.

sounds exciting--keep us updated. I too agree that this is such a big skill for kids to learn and important for safety reasons as well. kg is a bit of a drama queen as well but so far no drama although there are no diving boards in her class ;)

I can't believe it! I hope she's still around when I have kids one day, however, I will never forget being thrown off the diving board at 2 years old and turning around and around in circles in the deep end not having any clue what was going on! Thanks again for sticking your foot out and saving my life! LOL ;) although it was traumatic, looking back, I am grateful because we both love the water and love to swim! And we have a lot of memories during our swimming lessons! Especially those little awards we'd get that we could pin onto our swim suits, like little turtles and stuff, remember?

Ashlyn is gonna be SCARY to watch, haha. She is gonna FLIPPPPPPPP! I'm gonna join you at as many of them as I can, it's so weird that we're adults and doing this with your kid now! :)

Aww...I wish I could watch! But I know it will be well documented with pictures. I can't wait to hear about it. Kick kick kick, Ashlyn!

I took swim lessons when I was little! I can remember being held underwater by a rather large woman with a red bathing suit on. Luke is NOT ready for swim lessons! Maybe if we had a pool it would be an issue but as of now we will hold off.... maybe next summer. Can't wait to hear how Ashlyn does!

O'My Gosh! I can't believe that my daughter is having panic attacks just with making the call to Miss Pam to schedule the class for Nubbie! ha! Nubbin? You will need to sit in a chair on the lawn opposite of where Nubbie will be taking her lessons, ha! And YOU WILL SURVIVE this, I promise,ha!
