Ok...so Ashlyn has never been one to easily go down for naps or bedtime. Lately at night she has been getting out of bed alot and laying next to her door or playing which she gets in trouble for. Even after I spank her more than once she STILL gets out of bed, sooo frustrating. She won't fall asleep till at least an hour or so after I put her down. Probably because she wakes up late, then naps later and by bedtime she's not tired. So today I woke up earlier (815) and wokd her up, got her dressed fed her breakfast, then I showered and got dressed. I took her to the park which then got too hot so we came back home and we swam for alittle while. Then I fed her lunch, potty and off to nap (1:15) And still she's not falling asleep!! It's now almost 2 which will put us back on a late schedule. She normally naps 2 hours. My question is, what is your routine with your toddler and how long do they nap? Should I cut it back an hour? She has to nap or 5 oclock comes around and she's ready then to nap. It's really getting frustrating having to constantly get onto her to shut her eyes and go to sleep. Especially when I have plans, first I'm waiting for her to fALL asleep then waiting for her to nap so the process alone is at least 3 hours of our day. Then night time comes and she takes forever to fall asleep.
Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

oh girl this was happening to kelsey and I was sick of the fight. It would take me an hour and a half sometimes to get her down for a nap then she would sleep until 5 and not go to bed until 930-10 pm. So as fun as this may not sound I cut the nap out completely. bedtime and naptime just became too much of a struggle and it was not worth it. so the first week was tough with no nap. she was grouchy but then she got used to it and now she sleeps from about 830-7. this all happened to kelsey at about 3 years old but she has had friends give up a nap at two. some kids simply just need less sleep than others. good luck.
Hmm.. I'm not sure I have any advice for you! Luke goes down for his nap really well (knock on wood). Our schedule is: Bedtime 9-9:30pm, wake up around 8-8:30am (occasionally earlier). Nap time is 1:30-2ish and he sleeps a good 2-3 hours! He is still in his crib though so that may have something to do with it. I'm sure if he could get out & play, he would! One thing that we do before nap is that we watch a 30 minute movie/tv show together (like Veggie Tales or a DVR'ed Blues Clues), one that will keep his attention. So after lunch, he may play a while and then I'll turn off the lights in the den and give him some milk and we'll sit on the couch and watch a show. This kind of settles him down. We also have a pretty set routine at night too (bath, jammies, feed fish, book, rock for a few minutes, bed). I know that doesn't always work for every child but Luke is very much a child who thrives with a good routine! I'm so thankful for this too and pray that it doesn't change any time soon! I'm going to need that good 2-3 hour nap when Eli gets here!!
I was going to add that we're hoping to move his bedtime up soon so that he'll be in bed earlier but I'm so scared since we have such a good routine! During summer though we've been outside a lot, especially here lately in the evenings once it cools off and it's 8pm+ before we get in. Then he wants a little snack and some milk.. and after bath time it's 9pm! When his bedtime got later I kind of worried because in my mind (at the time) a 2 yo should be in bed by 8pm but then I got over it! Robby doesn't have to be at work until 8:30am and I don't work so what's the big deal!? :)
Hi, my name is Kari and I change my background everytime I login. Ha ha. I guess you are trying out new layouts?? I wasn't fond of the pink one, but I like this one and the wimsy flowers one. Sorry...no advice on naps, I will be coming to YOU for that so make sure you figure it out! Ha ha.
I think I have mentioned that sleep has always been an issue with us! Good luck!
Well we have had the same routine since Faith was 1 yr, just varied the time a little since then. Faith goes to bed at 8:00 every night and gets up between 7 and 7:30 every morning. I try to keep her up till 1:30 or 2 for nap but if we are in the car she will go to sleep as early as 12 (which we try to avoid). But she usually goes down and only sleeps about a hour and a half, if I am lucky 2hrs. When we put her down for nap and bed we give her water and rock her. I sing a few songs to her and then we rock in silence for a few minutes then she goes down. Sometimes she will play for a few minutes in bed, but she is usally out in 30 mins or less, but she is still in her crib too. SO she can't get out and I can just let her play and do her thing till she goes to sleep. I am keeping her in a crib for that reason because I know for a fact she will do the same thing Ashlynn is doing, so I am going to avoid that fight as long as I can. Her nap routine is exactly like the night one except bath time. SO she doesn't really fight us about going to bed although some nights she will cry for a few minutes. Anyway, that isn't much help, but good luck with it. My oldest niece did drop her nap a little before 3 yrs and has never napped since. Hopefully that will not happen though, cuz if you are like me you need that nap time!!! Sorry so long!!!
I really don't know much on this topic but I still make Devin and Faith nap! ha! Everyone laughs at me but its good for both them and me. Faith normally doesn't nap unless she is REALLY tired but Devin will sleep ALL day and he'll still go to sleep at night he's just a sleeper. He used to not nap if we put him down too early now we normally put him down about 3 and then he's up by 5 and will still go back to bed at 9. I am the napping nazi as my sister in law calls me though! Obviously this doesn't work in school! I hope things get better I am sure you will figure out something!! See you soon! :)
Thank you all for your comments! I am now limiting her naps to 1 hour instead of 2 and try to wake her up earlier in the morning so that may help once it gets in routine again. She's always been on a schedule ..the girl just hates to sleep! lol
I don't really have much advice. Connor has been pretty stable when it comes to sleeping. He wakes up around 7:30 am, eats breakfast at 9 am, plays, lunch at 12 or 12:30 and is down for a nap at 1 pm. Bedtime routine is snack, bath, story, in bed by 7:30-8 pm. Occasionally it will take him a while to fall asleep, but we just leave him alone. If he does happen to nap later in the afternoon I make sure he is up by 5 to get plenty of activity in to tire him out by bedtime.
As you know, every kid is different. My mom never napped as a young child. ;)
